Hi Guys -
Anybody know of any really thorough, exhaustive pieces on history and evolution of the casino "junket business" in Asia? My interest is mainly about Macau, but not limited to that if there are insights from any other markets.
Casinos have long financed visits by VIPs, going way back, and extending them credit, airfare, lodging and food and extras. (Example: I recall getting flown free from Malaysia to Walker Hill Casino in Korea, in the mid-1980s, plus free hotel and food.)
But at some point things evolved, esp in Macau, with third parties partnering with the casinos, handling the gathering / transport / credit / etc to whales, in exchange for a commission or share in the take.
Would like a detailed overview of the history of this.
A book would be great, but expect this may be limited to detailed articles.
All help appreciated!
