Quick question: is there a way to change one's preferences so that the posts on a thread are ordered newest to oldest? I mean, the newest post is on the top and you scroll down to older ones. I prefer this for my forums because typically, once a thread gets too long, and you've been reading it all along, you may only need to see one or two messages at the very end. Gets to be a hassle scrolling to the bottom of long threads.
I've looked around but can't find a place to adjust settings on this forum to accommodate this.
Little help, please?

Hi laupailee,
Unfortunately, there is not a way to change the order. FWIW, I prefer the newest on top - maybe I just got used to it that way on YMB. One thing that might help you - when there are new posts in a topic, you will see a red "New" button next to the thread title. If you click on that box, you will be immediately be transported to the oldest post you have not read in that thread. This works most of the time - there seems to be a bug in the software such that occasionally it does not work. Frequent use of the "Mark all Boards Read" in the Forum Information and Statistics sections seems to help to keep the "New" button working better.
Hope that helps!

Thanks, liane. Yeah, we've been through the wringer on this issue on our other (GMCR) board. There's just no tenable way to accommodate those who'd prefer the reverse-chronological order of posts. I even whined about this incessantly to the PB support folks, and they weren't sympathetic. Sorry!

Liane, thanks for the tip on clicking directly on top of the "new" button -- that's a good shortcut and helps ameliorate the problem.
Cheers,

For everyone: please note that the information about the "new" button, plus much more, can be viewed by clicking on the "ProBoards Hints" link at the top of the home page.
