Three Macau concessionaires affected by global Microsoft software failure by Newsdesk Mon 22 Jul 2024 at 17:07 www.asgam.com/index.php/2024/07/22/three-macau-concessionaires-affected-by-global-microsoft-software-failure/Macau’s Judiciary Police (PJ) said Monday that eight Macau enterprises were impacted by last week’s global Microsoft Windows outage, including three concessionaires. The outage on 19 July was caused by a faulty software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, impacting an estimated 8.5 million devices globally including everything from banking systems to airlines. According to the PJ, the Macau Cybersecurity Incident Alert and Response Centre (CARIC) has outlined its concern with the incident which has affected eight critical infrastructures to varying degrees. These include the internal computer systems of a cash courier company, two public organizations, two insurance companies and three concessionaires. However, police pointed out that the public services of these enterprises were not interrupted and their business operations remained normal. “CARIC has been closely monitoring the changes in Macau’s cyber environment,” it said. “Based on the information collected so far, the impact of this global cyber security incident on Macau is relatively limited and controllable”.
