ExxonMobil Guyana is forging ahead with developmental drilling operations at the Uaru well site within Guyana’s Exclusive Economic Zone on April 6, 2024.
According to a notice from Guyana’s Maritime Administration Department (MARAD), the Stena DrillMax is spearheading the drilling activities, scheduled to wrap up by April 30, 2024. Located approximately 105.3 nautical miles (195.1 kilometers) off the coast of Guyana, the Uaru site spans an area of 0.29 square nautical miles (1 square kilometer).
Uaru stands as the fifth project greenlit for development offshore Guyana. Anticipated this year, the sixth development, Whiptail, awaits submission for governmental and regulatory approval.
Valued at US$12.7 billion, the Uaru development aims to tap into an estimated resource base exceeding 800 million barrels of oil. It will feature up to 10 drill centers and 44 production and injection wells. The project, to come onstream in 2026, is expected to target initial production of 250,000 barrels per day (b/d).
In preparation for Uaru’s operations, MODEC is constructing the floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel named Errea Wittu, under an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract.
