Macau March GGR reaches $2.42B, marking a new post-COVID high April 1, 2024 agbrief.com/news/macau/01/04/2024/macau-march-ggr-reaches-2-42b-marking-a-new-post-covid-high/Macau’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) amounted to MOP19.50 billion ($2.42 billion) in March, reaching a new 49-month high. The results reflect a 5.5 percent increase from February‘s MOP18.5 billion ($2.29 billion) and a 0.01 percent increase from the last post-COVID October high of MOP19.5 billion ($2.41 billion). According to data released by the local regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), the March tally marked a 53.1 percent increase from the previous year. The result also represents a 24.5 percent decrease from the MOP25.8 billion ($3.21 billion) reported in March 2019, before the pandemic. For the first quarter of 2024, Macau’s casino GGR reached MOP57.33 billion ($7.12 billion), up 65.5 percent from last year, but still 24.7 percent lower than the first quarter of 2019, which was MOP76.15 billion ($9.46 billion). The Easter holidays (March 29th – April 1st) fall in March. According to official statistical data, the number of visitors arriving in Macau reached 330,000 for the first three days, with visitor arrivals peaking on the second day at 122,000 visitors. As Easter is not a public holiday in Mainland China but is in Hong Kong and Macau, Macau has recorded some crowds on the HKZM Bridge due to the increase in tourist traffic volume coming from Hong Kong.

Macau daily arrivals above 110k Easter Friday to Sunday Apr 01, 2024 Newsdesk www.ggrasia.com/macau-daily-arrivals-above-110k-easter-friday-to-sunday/Macau saw a daily average of just above 110,000 visitor arivals for the Easter Friday to Easter Sunday period, from March 29 to March 31 inclusive, according to data from Macau’s Public Security Police. For Hong Kong – Macau’s second-largest source market for tourists after mainland China – the Easter season this year runs from Good Friday (March 29) to Easter Monday (April 1) inclusive. Easter is not a holiday on the Chinese mainland. Macau’s aggregate visitor arrivals for March 29 to March 31 were 330,447. Saturday saw the biggest single-day tally across the three days, at 122,235. The police data do not include any breakdown of the source markets for the inbound visitors. But they show that the city’s Border Gate – the inland boundary crossing between Macau and Zhuhai, the nearest mainland city, in Guangdong province – was the busiest. It handled 106,296 visitor arrivals in aggregate for those three Easter days. The second busiest boundary checkpoint is the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge crossing, which handled an aggregate of 105,402 visitor arrivals for the same period.

I thought the casino stocks would have moved more on the good news, especially MLCO. Qtr 1 earning will be coming out in the next month.
