On April 1 this year, the Noble Tom Madden, Noble Sam Croft, Noble Bob Douglas and Noble Don Taylor operating under a Commercial Enabling Agreement (CEA)* were awarded 7.4 years of incremental term in connection with the sanctioning of Yellowtail.“Each rig is now contracted to the fourth quarter of 2025,” Noble said.
Noble’s work with ExxonMobil in Guyana is governed by the CEA which provides benefits to both parties, including significant operational efficiency of having four extremely similar rigs operating in the same region, and the security of supply.
OilNOW understands that both parties benefit from market-based day rates that are reset to market, March 1, and September 1 each year, in a manner that reflects day rates for a six-month job at the time of the reset.
Noble has said it sees activities and rates in Guyana and Suriname increasing this year.
Noble Corporation and Maersk Drilling kick-started a merger back in November 2021, to create a combined company that will own and operate a modern, high-end fleet of floaters and jack-up rigs across benign and harsh environments, serving customers in the most attractive offshore oil and gas basins, such as Guyana-Suriname.

Noble, ExxonMobil enter drilling agreement for Guyana-Suriname basin

February 11, 2020Noble Corporation plc and ExxonMobil on Tuesday announced the execution of a unique commercial enabling agreement for drilling services in the Guyana-Suriname Basin. The agreement defines contract terms for the continuation of drilling services using certain drilling units in Noble’s fleet.
Noble said the ultra-deepwater drillships Noble Bob Douglas, Noble Tom Madden and Noble Don Taylor, which are currently executing drilling assignments for ExxonMobil offshore Guyana, are included in the framework agreement, and other drilling rigs may be added to the agreement.
The Noble Bob Douglas is located on the Liza Phase I field development project, while the Noble Tom Madden and Noble Don Taylor are assigned to exploration drilling in the region.
Dayrates earned by each rig will be updated at least twice per year to the prevailing market rate, subject to a scale-based discount and performance bonus which appropriately aligns the interests of Noble and ExxonMobil.
Concurrent with signing of the agreement, ExxonMobil has awarded 3.5 years of term to be added at the conclusion of each rigs’ current contract commitments, as follows:
Noble said the agreement provides for allocation of six additional years dependent on future development decisions and government approvals, as well as the potential for incremental contract term, or rigs as required.

The Noble Bob Douglas, Noble Tom Madden and Noble Don Taylor are each Gusto P-10000 design ultra-deepwater drillships capable of operating in water depths of up to 12,000 feet. The rigs, which commenced operations during 2013 and 2014, are equipped with advanced drilling systems, and redundant subsea control technology and station-keeping systems.
